Job Description

Are you a Gamemaster who's been wanting to expand your skills or add a little money to your pocket with roleplaying? Now's your chance!

The Dragons Concord in Fairfax, VA is looking for individuals with tabletop roleplay gamemaster experience to join our group as part-time Professional Storytellers.

What's the difference between us and any other "Friendly Local Gaming Store"? That's easy, we focus on providing professional gaming services to roleplay gamers and gamemasters, rather than on selling books or dice. Our focus is on growing the gaming community as a whole by making access to roleplay gaming more convenient, by providing a centralized location with public and private gaming tables, and by offering professionally moderated gaming sessions in over 26 different game systems (so far). Joining OUR team doesn't mean sitting behind a counter selling Magic: the Gathering cards. In fact, we don't deal in TCG's at all. It means working with a team of like-minded individuals who have a passion for the roleplay community and want to help it grow, thrive, and have fun doing it.

If hired, you will be joining an established team of experienced Gamemasters running professional quality roleplay games on a commissions paid basis. All you'll need is your talent at the table, and we'll provide the rest! You'll also have the opportunity to work on a variety of other projects such as our actual play series, game system development, prop and costume work, etc. if you choose.

The ideal candidate for this position will have at least 3 years of experience moderating tabletop roleplay or miniature wargames such as Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, Cyberpunk Red, Star Wars: Armada, or Malifaux. Additional experience in roleplay adjacent fields such as creative writing, sound or video production, prop making, etc. are also highly valued, but not necessary.

All applicants will be asked to conduct a panel interview attended by several of our current Storytellers, either in-person or via Google Meet. Successful candidates will then be asked to run a game session in the store for 3-5 players who will consist of members of our current staff. This game session will be a "one-shot", and can be a homebrew or adventure module in any game system the candidate is comfortable with.

Benefits

  • Employee discount on all items in the store
  • Free snacks/drinks while on shift or hosting a session
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Other standard benefits as required by VA law
  • Future benefits may be added

Responsibilities

  • Standard retail responsibilities such as processing transactions, and maintaining store cleanliness.
  • Prepare and moderate roleplay gaming sessions for up to 6 players in at least one modern primary gaming system (such as D&D5e, Pathfinder 2e, Call of Cthulhu, etc).
  • Provide co-GM assistance to fellow Storytellers as needed
  • Additional tasks related to facilitation of tabletop roleplay gaming and store events may be requested but will not be mandated.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience as a gamemaster/storyteller (required)
  • Experience in sound/video editing (desirable)
  • Experience moderating miniature wargaming events such as Armada, Legion, Malifaux, or Warhammer (desirable)
  • Experience in event planning or in running game tables at Conventions (desirable)

We look forward to hearing from you!
