Job Title: Technical Operator (MC&Ignite) - WHIO TV

Position Overview

The WHIO Technical Operator position includes monitoring and delivering on-air and cable broadcast signals, recording programs from satellite and fiber feeds for later use, setting up automated playlists for programming and commercials, and monitoring transmitter and other signal distribution for compliance.

Applicants must have experience in a live TV environment, have a solid understanding of digital signal flow within television industry standards, and have excellent computer skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitoring television broadcast equipment that transmits programs and commercials to the viewing audience in real time.
• Assure a high-quality broadcast signal by monitoring, controlling and logging transmitter output, and resolving any on-air problems which might occur.
• Live, on-air switching of both broadcast and digital platforms.
• Preparation and operation of broadcast equipment, including Imagine Communication master control automation.
• Operation of video routers and switchers.
• Gather, record, and segment programs from satellite, fiber or digital delivery for later playback.
• Manage tapeless, digital server content for playback
• Support operation of the station by assisting Engineering, News and Creative Services departments
• Use of broadcaster computer networks
• Train as an Ignite director/operator for fill in and vacation relief.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent years of experience
• Minimum 1 year working in broadcast or related field 
• Good understanding of broadcast signal standards 
• Good understanding of broadcast signal flow and digital file transfer 
• Must work independently as well as in a team environment 
• Thorough understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook 
• Willingness to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed
